In a post on X on Tuesday, Gharibabadi stressed that Iran’s conditions for negotiations are rooted in international law and the UN Charter, including a permanent cessation of hostilities, non-repetition of war, compensation for damages, lifting of the siege, removal of illegal sanctions, and respect for Iran’s rights. He described these demands as the “minimum requirements” for a sustainable and serious resolution.

The diplomat criticized the United States’ approach, arguing that peace cannot be built through “humiliation, threats, and coercive score-settling.” He contended that Washington’s rejection of Iran’s responses, simply because they are not surrender letters, demonstrates that the US is more interested in imposing political will than achieving genuine peace.

Gharibabadi also dismissed claims of US commitment to diplomacy, noting that ongoing sanctions, siege measures, and support for destabilizing regional actors contradict any real pursuit of ceasefire or stability.

The comments follow a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire declared on April 7 for two weeks after a 40-day war that began on February 28 with the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several officials.

Subsequent talks between Tehran and Washington in Islamabad on April 11, led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and US Vice President J.D. Vance, concluded without agreement.
