Micro-CT systems deliver micrometer-resolution imaging
An Iranian knowledge-based company has developed two micro-CT systems, Lotus and NTT, for producing detailed two- and three-dimensional images of samples using X-rays.
Faezah Shalbaafzadeh, the company’s marketing and sales specialist, said the Lotus micro-CT is mainly designed for medical and preclinical research, while the NTT system is used primarily for industrial applications.
She explained that the systems operate similarly to hospital CT scanners: samples are placed inside the device and scanned with X-rays to generate 2D and 3D images.
The technology provides digital images with micrometer-level resolution, offering significantly finer detail than conventional hospital CT scanners, which typically provide millimeter-scale resolution.
According to Shalbaafzadeh, the systems have research applications in biology, dentistry, pharmaceuticals, tissue engineering, oil and gas, petrochemicals, civil engineering, materials science and electronics.
