Iranian Lawmaker Warns US Intervention in Hormuz Strait ‘Ceasefire Violation’

A senior Iranian lawmaker has warned that any US involvement in the new maritime arrangements of the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of a ceasefire, following Washington’s announcement of a plan to escort commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated in a post on X that any US interference in the maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz would be treated as a direct breach of the ceasefire agreement.

He dismissed US President Donald Trump’s proposal to deploy American forces to escort ships through the strait as “delusional,” insisting that the region’s maritime affairs cannot be dictated by unilateral US decisions or political messaging.

“Any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire,” Azizi wrote, adding that “no one will accept blame-game scenarios” regarding the waterway’s security and management.

His remarks came shortly after Trump announced that US forces would begin escort operations for commercial vessels passing through the strait. The announcement did not specify which countries would be involved or how the operation would be implemented, but warned that any disruption would be met with force.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained a highly sensitive maritime corridor amid ongoing regional tensions since the outbreak of the US-Israeli conflict against Iran earlier this year. Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized their control over the strategic waterway, framing it as essential to national security and regional stability.

Azizi’s statement reflects Tehran’s firm rejection of any external military presence in the area, particularly in the context of heightened tensions and competing security initiatives in the persian Gulf region.
