Speaking during a meeting with Iranian Deputy Defence Minister Reza Talaei-Nik in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Belousov said Russia’s support for Iran would remain firm “under any development of the situation,” according to reports from Russian state media.

The discussions took place amid heightened tensions following what Iran describes as an illegal US blockade of Iranian vessels and ports. The measures come despite a ceasefire announced and later extended unilaterally by US President Donald Trump earlier this month.

Iran has rejected the blockade, calling it a continuation of American hostility and a violation of ceasefire conditions established after weeks of what Tehran and Moscow have characterized as unprovoked US-Israeli attacks on Iranian territory.

Belousov reiterated Moscow’s support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that Russia wishes the Iranian people and armed forces “resilience and courage” in addressing current challenges. He also stressed that Russia continues to advocate for resolving the crisis exclusively through diplomatic means and remains ready to assist in de-escalation efforts.

The Iranian side, in turn, expressed appreciation for Russia’s backing in international forums and its commitment to strengthening bilateral and defence cooperation between the two countries.

According to Iranian media reports, Tehran has taken retaliatory measures during the escalation, including restricting access to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, while also ruling out renewed negotiations with Washington as long as the blockade remains in place.

Russia has repeatedly voiced support for Iran’s response to the situation, with its representatives recently criticizing US policy of combining sanctions and military pressure, arguing that such an approach has failed and should be reconsidered.
