U.S.-Israeli Strikes Hit Civilian Infrastructure, Damaging Karaj’s Landmark B1 Bridge

The strategic structure—which featured some of the most complex engineering designs in the world—was targeted by U.S. and Israeli forces on Thursday, April 2.

The B1 Bridge was a key infrastructure project for the province and was slated for official inauguration in the near future. While the full extent of the structural damage is being assessed, officials confirmed the site has sustained significant impacts.

Provincial authorities have issued an urgent advisory requesting citizens to strictly avoid commuting near the affected area due to the current security and structural conditions. All access routes to the bridge site are currently closed to the public.

The strikes also caused localized power outages in several districts. The Alborz Province Electric Power Distribution Company confirmed that emergency crews are on the ground and actively working to restore the power grid.

The B1 Bridge is widely regarded as a pinnacle of domestic engineering capability, designed to facilitate major transit corridors and alleviate traffic congestion in the Alborz and Tehran regions. International observers have previously noted its unique architectural and structural complexity, which makes it one of the most sophisticated bridge projects globally.

This attack on civilian transit infrastructure follows a series of strikes on non-military sites across the country, raising further concerns regarding the deliberate targeting of vital public services and historical engineering achievements.
