Mass U.S. Protests Signal Shift Against Trump’s Foreign Policy
Tehran-based political analyst Hakam Amhaz said in an interview with ANA News Agency that the large-scale demonstrations across the United States represent an unprecedented shift in public opinion toward President Donald Trump’s policies.
Amhaz noted that the protests, estimated to involve around 9 million people, highlight significant opposition within American society to the administration’s foreign policy approach, particularly in light of what he described as its negative consequences for citizens.
He warned that any deployment of U.S. forces into Iranian territory would carry serious risks, arguing that such a move could result in heavy losses for American troops, including the possibility of deaths or capture.
In a related context, Amhaz cautioned that the closure of key maritime chokepoints, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab, would lead to a sharp increase in global fuel prices, negatively impacting the international economy rather than just the region.
He also argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is playing a central role in pushing the United States toward military escalation with Iran, pointing to complex political pressures behind this direction.
On the diplomatic front, Amhaz said prospects for renewed negotiations remain limited at this stage, citing the absence of common ground acceptable to both sides.
He added that Iran has adopted a strategy aimed at prolonging any potential conflict and exhausting its adversaries, which could pose a significant challenge for both the United States and Israel in the event of a prolonged war.
Amhaz concluded that the continued escalation of protests in the United States could increase pressure on the White House to soften its stance and potentially move toward de-escalation, amid growing domestic challenges facing the administration.
