Iran develops Nano-herbal capsule to boost curcumin absorption
An Iranian knowledge-based company specializing in nanopharmaceutical technologies has introduced a novel herbal formulation that leverages nanotechnology to significantly improve the therapeutic performance of curcumin. The product, formulated as an oral capsule containing standardized turmeric extract, has been developed to support the management of chronic inflammatory conditions.
Curcumin has long attracted scientific interest because of its well-documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, its clinical application has been limited by poor gastrointestinal absorption and low bioavailability. To address this challenge, the developers used nanotechnology to reduce the particle size of curcumin, enabling more efficient intestinal absorption and facilitating greater delivery of the compound to target tissues and organs.
According to the manufacturer, the enhanced formulation may be used as an adjunct to conventional therapies for a range of inflammatory and chronic diseases, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, psoriasis, and eczema.
The company also suggests that the improved bioavailability of curcumin could help reduce the risk of certain diabetes-related complications and provide supportive benefits in the management of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. These potential applications, however, should be interpreted in the context of ongoing clinical research and in consultation with healthcare professionals.
Developers state that increasing curcumin bioavailability not only enhances its therapeutic efficacy but may also reduce the required daily dosage, potentially lowering the risk of adverse effects associated with higher doses. The capsule is generally recommended for use one to three times daily, depending on the patient's clinical condition, and should be taken under the supervision of a physician or qualified healthcare provider.
