Iran warns regional states against assisting US following fresh strikes
Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday accused the United States of launching fresh strikes against monitoring and surveillance facilities along the country’s southern coastline, describing the attacks as a clear breach of international law and previous commitments.
In a statement, the ministry said the strikes violated Article 2(4) of the UN Charter as well as Article 1 of the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities.
The ministry also accused Washington of further undermining the agreement by revoking, through the US Treasury, the authorization for Iranian oil sales that it said had been guaranteed under the memorandum. It added that continued developments in the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing Israeli military operations against Lebanon had further weakened the ceasefire framework.
Tehran called on all governments, particularly the Persian Gulf states, to fulfill their international legal obligations by preventing their territories or facilities from being used to launch attacks against Iran. It stressed that any form of assistance to military action targeting the Islamic Republic would be viewed as participation in the crime of aggression.
The statement also condemned what it described as repeated US violations of its commitments and urged the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to uphold their responsibilities for maintaining regional and international peace and security.
Reaffirming Iran’s position, the ministry said the country's armed forces remain prepared to defend Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security under Article 51 of the UN Charter, adding that they would respond by targeting the source of any aggression against the country.
