Ghalibaf says Swiss talks helped prevent further violence in Lebanon
In a post published on X on Tuesday, Ghalibaf responded to criticism over the Iranian delegation’s travel to Switzerland, referencing a televised comment suggesting that Mehrabad Airport should have been closed to stop the team from departing.
He argued that had the delegation not participated in the talks, “more blood of Lebanon’s Muslims and Shias would have been shed at every moment,” framing the negotiations as a necessary step to reduce regional escalation.
Ghalibaf further noted that the Iranian delegation held consultations with involved parties as well as mediators from Pakistan and Qatar during the Swiss discussions.
Technical-level negotiations between Iran and the United States reportedly began in Switzerland on Monday under the framework of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
The talks followed the signing of a broader memorandum between Tehran and Washington aimed at ending what was described as a US-Israeli-imposed conflict against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
