In a statement published by IRNA on Friday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that 24 commercial ships, including oil tankers and container vessels, successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours after receiving the necessary authorization and operating under IRGC Naval Force protection.

The IRGC said it continues to maintain close surveillance over the strategic waterway and warned that any hostile actions would be met with a firm response.

According to the statement, the IRGC has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz since early March, following heightened regional tensions that Tehran links to a U.S. and Israeli military campaign launched on February 28, which Iran describes as an act of aggression.

The increased security measures have affected maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor responsible for around 20 percent of worldwide oil and gas shipments.

Iran says the security of the waterway is directly tied to its national security concerns. Iran and Oman, as coastal states of the strait, are currently working on regulatory frameworks to ensure safe navigation and stability in the region.

The IRGC also noted that dozens of vessels have safely transited the strait over the past two weeks in coordination with its naval forces.
