Ghalibaf: New Strategic Dynamics Emerging in the Strait of Hormuz

(Tehran Ana)- Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says a new regional equation is forming in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that US and allied actions have undermined maritime security and energy transit in the area.

In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Ghalibaf stated that shipping safety and energy flows have been put at risk due to what he described as violations of a ceasefire and the imposition of a naval blockade on Iran by the United States and its partners.

He added that despite these developments, what he called the “negative impact” of such actions will ultimately diminish.

Ghalibaf further noted that Iran is fully aware that the current situation is unsustainable for the United States, while stressing that Tehran has “not yet fully entered the field” of response.

The remarks come in the context of heightened tensions following a major escalation on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. Iranian officials say senior figures, including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and several military commanders were killed during the attacks.

In response, Iran’s armed forces carried out extensive missile and drone operations against US and Israeli positions in the region, which Iranian sources say continued over weeks and involved multiple waves of strikes.

Iran also moved to tighten control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, reportedly restricting passage for vessels linked to hostile actors and requiring prior authorization from Iranian authorities for transit.

These measures were introduced following US announcements of continued restrictions targeting Iranian maritime activity and ports, further intensifying tensions over one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
