Iran FM Spokesperson Urges Americans to Hold Leaders Accountable Over ‘Illegal War’
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, stated that US citizens have both the right and responsibility to question their government’s actions regarding the recent conflict with Iran, which he characterized as an illegal war.
In a post shared on X on Friday, Baqaei referenced remarks made by a US lawmaker during a congressional hearing, where it was acknowledged that Iran had posed no direct threat to the United States.
Describing the conflict as a “war of choice,” Baqaei argued that the US administration had initiated an unprovoked act of aggression against Iran. He stressed that Americans should demand accountability from their leadership for initiating the conflict and for the consequences that followed.
Baqaei further criticized the military actions carried out by the United States and Israel, claiming they targeted Iran despite ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program.
He also accused the two countries of carrying out attacks that resulted in civilian casualties, including an incident in southern Iran that reportedly claimed the lives of schoolchildren and other civilians.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions and ongoing debate over the legality and implications of military actions taken during the conflict.
