Mohammad Mehdi Alavianmehr, head of the Islamic World Science Citation and Technology Monitoring Institute, said Iran is leading Islamic countries in advancing microelectronics, a field he described as vital for building a smarter and more connected future.

Based on Web of Science data, he noted that Iran, alongside Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, is among the top performers in integrated circuit research.

These countries also show strong output in semiconductors, superconductors, polymer and organic materials, emerging electronic components, and MEMS technologies, highlighting their growing role in the global electronics sector.

He added that microelectronics forms a core infrastructure for key modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous systems, and smart medical devices, and is central to global digital transformation.

Alavianmehr stressed that assessing scientific progress in microelectronics through international benchmarks is essential, noting that advancing such strategic technologies is a priority in Iran’s Seventh Development Plan.
